Cubbie's Word

The Ups and the Downs Wednesday, August 29, 2007
It seemed like the pressure was really on tonight. It was clear how this game was going to go from the 2nd inning where a miss throw to first plate and than a miss steal on the 2nd play with another dropped ball. Although things seemed to be dreadful there things got worst. It seems as if when the Cubs have a rough time with the defense the offense proves to be just as bad. While I am sure some players take a moment to relax and forget their fatal mistakes, I am curious to how the Cubs players relax. Was this game important? YES. None the less if the Cubs can just go out there with the idea of winning set in their head and not let dumb little mistakes ruin the entire game. It was clear they had this mind set the first game against the Brewers coming from behind 3-0. Although I am sound like a little league coach is it honestly any different. Don't get me wrong I am not a professional baseball player, but I am human. I have learned that if something is on your mind other than the task ahead than everything goes whack. Milwaukee Brewers are a great team, but my opinion after watching the Cubs play this 2007 season, we are much better. And to prove my point even further is that when teams are having a bad month it tends to stay that way up until a little luck turns it around and than the players mindset in fact changes completely into the idea of being a winner and loser. It is psychology really. I have a feeling this turn around will come sometime soon as the games are getting tighter and tighter. Cubs really need to just relax and hit one ball at a time. No more of this swing at the first pitch, take a few and get an idea of how the pitcher works.

Giant Loss Against The Cubs? Wednesday, August 22, 2007
I wouldn't call it a Giant loss, but was clearly a loss none the less. All right, all right so we came back from a 1-0 lead at the top of the ninth. The time of celebrating another great victory is over. With another game right around the corner tonight at the same time, Cubs really need to step it up a notch in this game. Although it was a great victory, exactly how great of a victory was it? Ryan Theriot was one of the few if not the only Cub player to reach second base, and that was at the top of the ninth inning. Tied 1 to 1 it was Cliff Floyd who saved the day to bring it to 3 to 1, but by the end of the night Cubs take out the Giants with a 5 to 1 victory holding the all important one spot amongst the Milwaukee Brewers.
